Poldark Season 2

Excited about Poldark returning in a few short weeks?Poldark-topless

Strangely, I didn’t catch season 1 of the epic British drama Poldark on PBS the first time around when women across the globe swooned over Aidan Turner’s scything scene. No, busy with the close of Downton Abbey and other favorites, I didn’t cue up the first Poldark episode until it hit Amazon Prime a while back. I’d heard so much about the show I’m not quite sure why I waited so long—period drama based on beloved books, a dashing hero with a heart for the poor, a memorable heroine I could root for. A few minutes in and I wasn’t just interested, I was hooked.

Demelza PoldarkBrilliant characters were brought to life by fabulous actors. One episode led to another until I binge watched the entire season, wiping my tears and looking forward to its return. But as far as I was concerned, Poldark’s season two couldn’t come soon enough. Nampara had gotten under my skin in a way few shows do. I flew to the library to check out the first book by Winston Graham (there are twelve), which sucked me in more than even the show did, bringing to life rich, minor characters and the beautiful Cornish landscapes. Soon enough book two led to book three, and then book four…

Where it all came to a screeching halt.

***Partial Spoilers***

Bam…in one short scene my love affair with Ross Poldark was tainted forever—irreparably damaged in the worst way. I won’t discuss the particulars, but even the screenwriter was forced to discuss the controversy in a recent Q&A with the other actors and directors before the launch of the second season. Apparently, it will be changed for the TV series, but not enough for me.

So, though my heart still longs for the characters and the connection I felt to the community, I find my joy sadly diminished. I’ll herald in the new season like I do with any other show, with just a passing interest. #sorryross

Have any other shows/movies let you down?

Here are a few others I just have to mention:

  • Anne of Green Gable the third sequel (the one that had nothing to do with the books)
  • Star Wars: Episode 1
  • The Matrix Sequels
